Studio 54 and Rollerina
The 70s came alive as Dance 208, the longest running LGBT dance party in New York City re-created the legendary hotspot Studio 54 as we celebrated the birthday of legendary Drag Diva Rollerina on April 25. Rollerina is a dear friend and has been fabulous Drag personality since the 1970s roller skating around Studio 54 and Greenwich Village, paving the way for Drag Queens today. She is considered to be the Fairy Drag Godmother to all NYC Drag Queen performers! I was honored to be hosting an event celebrating her marvel. Designer David Avieles recreated Art from Studio 54 including the infamous “Man in the Moon with a Cocaine Spoon”. DJ Ted Snowdon played music that was played back then and go go boys Ken and Greg dressed in sexy retro leatherman emsembles. Over 500 people packed the place and we all Shook our Grove Thangs! Among those seen were, Joe Fiore, Joe La Mattina and Fernando, Ed Getty, Larry Lala, Darlana Stevens, Austin Pendleton, Torez, Peter Lau, Rowan Foley, Andrew Jonas, Jamie, Fannie Fondue, Pauline Park, Angela Mercy, Krishna Stone, Brent Nicholson Earle, Ron Lester, Darryl Branch, Mark Schulte, Recording Artist Lovari, Out FM's Pedro Angle Serrano, Bruce Michael Gilbert, Sue Senna and Jamie Lloyd from SWISH (Straight Women in Support of Homos) and Danny Brook.
